According to the EC, US duties will harm the EU's exports, which in 2017 was estimated at EUR6.4 billion. "This is a well-considered and adequate response to the unilateral illegal decision of the United States to impose duties on the export of European steel and aluminum. We regret that the United States has left us no choice but to introduce protective measures in the EU, "said Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström. According to Eurometal, in 2017 steel imports in the EU amounted to 29.4 million tons (not including semi-manufactured products). About 69%, that is 20.3 million tons, was flat rolled.
