Russian energy exports turns to the East.
The export of Russian energy resources over the past 15 years has grown significantly due to expansion of supplies to European and East Asian countries. The volume of oil exports jumped by 76 percent, oil products - 2.5 times, coal - 3.8 times.
New energy projects, such as the "Siberia Power" pipeline, and capacities enlargement at the plants operating the liquefied natural gas (LNG) will finally contribute in driving the gas export from the dead-lock, which in the same period grew by only 10 percent, and switching completely to expansion of supplies in the eastern direction. The current Nord Stream-2 and Turkish Stream pipeline projects will allow not only to expand exports, but also to reduce the risks of transit through Eastern Europe and develop a network of direct supplies.
For 2001-2016 the export of Russian oil and coal was significantly reoriented to the East: deliveries to the East and South-East Asia countries increased 17 and 12 times respectively, and by the results of the last year reached 73.4 million tons and 76.8 million tons.
For example, the expansion of the LNG plant in Sakhalin and the launch of the Yamal LNG project can provide additional increase in gas supplies to the Asia-Pacific region by 15 billion cubic meters or more. That is, due to these projects, the total supplies to the East by the beginning of 2020s can increase 3-4 times - up to 55 billion cubic meters.
