Poland refused to agree on the construction of the "Nord Stream-2"
The antimonopoly regulator of Poland did not agree on the creation of a joint venture for the Nord Stream-2 construction. The availability of the gas pipeline will further strengthen Gazprom's position in the European market, they fear in Warsaw.
The UOKiK says that the deal to establish a joint venture may lead to a restriction of competition. "Currently Gazprom holds a dominant position in the field of gas delivery to Poland, and the planned deal can further strengthen the company's negotiating position in regard to Polish customers.
The second line of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, run along the bottom of the Baltic Sea, shall double the gas supply to Germany to 110 billion cubic meters per year. In March eight EU members opposed this project. Among them - the Czech Republic, Romania, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia and Lithuania. The heads of government of these countries said that the implementation of the project poses a geopolitical threat.
